Energy Sources

In 2014 I taught a second level Thermodynamics class. As part of that class I put together a series of lectures that tried to give the class an appreciation for how vast the non-oil related energy resources of the earth are. Also I wanted to give them an impression of how quickly the world is leaving its oil economy behind and moving to alternative sources of energy. Since then the rate of change has increased and an economic driver has motivated change. The greed motive is quickly replacing the moral motive of the past. This is a good thing as, for once, greet and morality align and are moving thing in a good, sustainable direction. It takes some time to turn the great ship that is the oil economy so be patient. Things seem to be working out.

First though, it might be worth taking a moment and reading through the last section of a short book I wrote for an engineering class on Social Responsibility. The intent of this last section was again to try and give the student a little perspective and half way through I briefly look at what our possible energy futures might look like.  Here is ...

Also there is this very informative world map I found. I shows how much of the worlds surface would be necessary to supply all the worlds needs with electricity. Incredibly and optimistically, the patches of earth needed to do what has made out to be a monumental task is almost nothing at all. Take a look ...

Here are my 2014 link. Enjoy.
