mech 153 - assignment 1
Preliminary Review the section in the textbook on V-Belts. Take a look at these YouTube videos to get a feel for V-Belts: Question 1 A 1.1 kW, 1750 rpm motor is to operate a band saw whose flywheel turns at approximately 800 rpm. A pulley attached to the flywheel shaft connects, by means of a V-belt, to the pulley on the motor shaft. The Centre-to-centre (c/c) distance between the two shafts is 340 mm. Calculate the size of the V-Belt required.
Question 2 A 0.5 hp, 1160 rpm motor is used to operate a drill press. The spindle is to operate at two different speeds: 520 rpm and 65 rpm. The centre-to-centre (c/c) distance between the motor and spindle shives is approximatelly 22 inches when the spindle is operating at the higher speed. Select a suitable V-belt and approximatelly predict how much the motor will have to move to maintain belt tension when the spindle speed is changed. |
