mech 153 - assignment 3 Chain Drives
Question 1 A tumbler barrel is to be driven at approximatelly 40 RPM by a speed reducer powered by a 5 hp electric motor. The reducer output speed is 100 RPM and the output shaft is 1.75 inches in diameter. The shaft diameter of the tumbling barrel is 2 inches. The shaft centre distance is approximetelly 36 inches. Select a single chain to form the drive connection of the speed reducer that can operate in heavy shock conditions.
Question 2 Repeat Question 1 but this time specify a double chain arrangement to form the drive connection of the speed recducer.
Question 3 The head shaft of an apron conveyor, which handles rough castings from a shakeout, operates at 66 RPM and is driven by a gear motor whose output is 5.6 kW at 100 RPM. the head shaft has a 50 mm diameter and the gear motor shaft has a 44 mm diameter. Shaft centre distance should not exceed 1055 mm. Specify a 3 chain arrangement that will make this system work under moderate shock conditions. |
